The pups have been settling into their new homes and the new owners have been having lots of fun with their babies! But there are challenges too – particularly if you haven’t had a dog before, or haven’t had a puppy before. They are just like babies 🙂
I remember my mum telling me that there are only two words a puppy needs to know: its name and ‘no’. We’ve come on a bit since then and do try to be more positive with our training, but these are still two important words.
How often should you use the puppy’s name?
If you spend all day long saying Charlie, Charlie, Charlie, then it shouldn’t be a surprise if Charlie switches off, should it? But if you say ‘Ebbie come’ and wait a moment, she’ll probably come, won’t she? Well especially if you give lovely cuddles and have a bit of sausage!
Puppies, just like children, need repetition, but they also need stimulation. If they are just left to their own devices, they will make mischief 😉 So the important thing at this early stage is to use the puppy’s name, but with interest and excitement, and not ALL the time.
I’m so good, really
It’s a slow process, but hopefully, with patience and perseverance, your puppy will soon know their name and even come when you call!
Away They Go!
They had lots more play together
Hey Thornton, what’s up there?
Last nap with their siblings
Can you see five very happy new owners? Can you see five loving homes? It is hard sending them off and I will miss them, but I think this is the best job in the world; raising beautiful border collies, bred for better temperament and health. I wish I could have more puppies, but I put my heart and soul into giving them the best possible start in life and it is hard work.
The new adventure begins!
Pupdates: “Beck settling in very nicely. Happy in her cage, business outside, seems really happy and playing nicely with the boys. You have prepared her well and she is delightful.”
“Ebbie has had a very busy day, we visited my dad, my sister and niece and now she has fallen asleep on the floor in the front of the TV whilst watching the Football with Rose and I. She loves classical music and have found that this relaxes her instantly, she despises car journeys, but wait for it………whines to go outside and then goes to toilet every single time – wow! I’m sure it’s not meant to be this easy, but it’s testament to you and your hard work Penny. She is absolutely beautiful love her to bits.”
Wishing them all lots of love and happiness in their new homes. x
Seven-week-old Border Collie puppies are full on! They need to come out and about and be part of ‘normal family life’.
“Rescue me please mum?” says Busy.
